I think that it is less literal than that. I think 'losing the roar' is a metaphor for going out of business entirely. Article claims that there seem to be no buyers, and there is doubt that the company will survive at all.but that's really not the story I was expecting.?
It's all sci-fi until sci-fi becomes possible, as has happened so many times before... |

Seriously? Nothing could go wrong with humanity engineering the environment- even if it's to correct anthropogenic climate change. Stopping the ongoing damage is one thing but actively changing it is a bit scary.

"hey add extra weight which makes the launch and landing more expensive."- I'm pretty sure they can come up with a track made of some composite material. At the speed it travels wear is a none issue."Mostly they are prone to getting jammed up with junk. This isn't a problem for a multi tonne bulldozer with a multi kilowatt power plant that can pretty much crush and brute force away all but the worst blockages."- You have to take into account that machines like a bulldozer or a tank move in a violent way so junk is more likely to get in the tracks. This is a gentle slow moving robot we're talking about."And finally, if the track breaks the probe is pretty much stuck"- If the wheels break then the probe is pretty much stuck too. So? In all i'm pretty damn sure there is a reason they didn't go with the most used multi-terrain mean of moving a vehicle. I guess that energy efficiency was a big factor. Though your multi wheel explanation is spot on, still, it got jammed in sand in a planet that is covered in sand. As an engineer for nasa this would be one of my primary tests. To see how much sand the rover can take. Of course if it goes over a deep "pool" of loose sand, larger than the robot, i guess there is no "wheel" system that could help it get out because it would sink all at the same time. I would love to work for such a project and test out prototypes. :)

But see, the problem is her "image" took over her career. It's not about being a musician/songwriter anymore. It's about making the most noise by wearing the most insane outfits at the latest award ceremony. To quote Lewis Black, "sad but true, my friends. sad, but *****' true!" |
