Stop buying media in the UK, get it from someone else, somewhere else, ebay anything, just don't buy it in the UK. This is fascism - what your grandparents died fighting against in WW2. All that blood, bodies strews across Europe and elsewhere. They died in vein it seems.
I'm taking a class in Chomskyan Syntax right now, and his newest theory, Minimalist Theory, creates a structure that accounts for variation across all languages. Underlying relations between completely unrelated languages is nothing do, but over time linguists are getting better at finding out how exactly they are related.

“Agreed to a point. It doesn't mean we should let the RIAA and MPAA write our laws, though.

Kimberly-Clark buying 'green' power and using envioronmentally friendly sources for pulp is good. At least it shows that they care. It doesn't do much for their bottom line, though...it's costing them extra...!! They won't get the real (economic) benifit of 'going green' until they modernize their old-style (dirty, energy-intensive and chemical-intensive) processes. It may look like a huge task, but if they worked to develop the new methods using enzymes for pulp processing and 'bleaching', they could make more money. It would mean using less heat, chemicals and water, it would use less energy and do less envioronmental damage. It would be a total 'win', if they would just make the effort...!!Here's the latest info on using enzymes to make paper (pdf)...http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/pdf2003/kenea03a ...?
You think the average person has enough time to figure out what the heck was going on? You hear a bang, you look. Maybe later a clever person would feign ignorance. |

actually 5 trillion electron volts would power a 40 watt lightbulb for about 20 nanoseconds. Which, of couse, isn't even enough to heat up the filament. I can haz electrical engineer degree now!

Meh, as long as they don't occupy any of the buildings in which I have classes. They're being self-entitled brats who are protesting for the sake of rebellion and because they want their education to be subsidized by the state. I would actually support a low-cost/free public higher education system like that of some European countries and I am aware that it would involve higher taxes, but such tax laws would still take time to take effect and gather the needed revenue and the budget crisis is a current issue. So until we turn California into a socialist utopia, the money has to come from somewhere and that means higher fees. Also, their strategy of occupying buildings and disrupting university administrative functions seems to be modeled after protests at Berkeley in the early 60's. The problem is that those protests were about the university forbidding students from protesting, so they made sense in a way. These protests are about not wanting to pay money, but the students skip out on the classes they already paid for and cost the university money as they disrupt operations or break stuff. Where's the sense in that?Full-disclosure: as a veteran, my education is fully-funded by veterans' education benefits, so the fee increase will not negatively impact my education. Perhaps my opinion is less relevant as a result, hence this disclosure.
