The anger behind Xmas is stupid, its use was actually sanctioned by the pope in the 1400's after the invention of the printing press in order to save on printing costs. The X is actually the greek letter "chi" (pronounced like "kai") and is the first letter/sound in CRISTOS or Christ. It is not uncommon to find early printed papal documents that also refer to "Xianity" and "Xians".
Excerpt from the future:Billy: MOM, JOHNNY JUST HACKED MY WRIST AND MADE IT SAY BOOGER!!!Mom: Johnny, what did we say about hacking into your brother's implants?

“I don't understand music videos myself, but I have friends who watch them during lectures. So I can definitely believe that the labels are making a decent amount of money. The people who I observe watching music videos all seem to only wear a single earbud. How can people only listen to one side of a stereo recording?

As Nate Silver over at FiveThirtyEight explains, this is hardly the smoking gun people are making it out to be:"[L]et's be clear: Jones is talking to his colleagues about making a prettier picture out of his data, and not about manipulating the data itself. Again, I'm not trying to excuse what he did -- we make a lot of charts here and 538 and make every effort to ensure that they fairly and accurately reflect the underlying data (in addition to being aesthetically appealing.) I wish everybody would abide by that standard.Still: I don't know how you get from some scientist having sexed up a graph in East Anglia ten years ago to The Final Nail In The Coffin of Anthropogenic Global Warming. Anyone who comes to that connection has more screws loose than the Space Shuttle Challenger. And yet that's literally what some of these bloggers are saying!Incidentally, 2009 is shaping up to be the 5th warmest year on record, according to the conspiracists at NASA."http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/11/i-read-thro ...?
I will always support studies like this not as a deterrent to smoking but to add to the well of modern science. It never hurts to know more, and amazing things are discovered in the strangest places. Antibiotics were discovered entirely by accident(granted it was during a search for antimicrobial agents, but still).Science, people. |

The difference between Obama and FDR's spending and most of the Republican spending is that the current government spending is during a time of deep economic contraction to stimulate growth. This is sound economic policy that works. The government steps in to create demand during times when there is a lack of demand but plenty of supply in the economy (a recession.) Reagan also increased spending and cut taxes which undoubtedly helped the economy recover from the early 80's recession but also doubled the national debt. After the economy is on sound footing then the government spending needs to slow down to reduce the national debt which was never done in the past 30 years (except under Clinton!) At least Dems are honest about their spending and do it when its necessary whereas Republicans lie about being the party of fiscal responsibility. Not to mention the differences between what republicans and democrats spend the money on. Repugs - tax cuts for the rich and war while democrats spend money for social programs for the rest of us

The e-mails are real but the conclusions that people are jumping to aren't justified. At worst the e-mails are embarrassing and none of them have any evidence that the claimed science is not correct.

I came to bury the "If you don't do anything wrong..." crowd but there aren't as many of those sort of comments on Digg as there used to be. Maybe more of us are starting to see the pattern of power abuse that needs to be addressed.
