Some people do pirate to get it for free. Others pirate to get it *free of restrictions*.I've pirated movies when my DVD player wasn't able to decrypt the latest DRM on a Sony movie that I rented or when it was easier than driving all the way to Blockbuster.I've pirated TV shows when I missed several episodes of a linear TV show and didn't want to wait for the producer to get around to feeling like re-releasing those episodes. Or when I want to watch the shows when *I* want to watch them rather than when the *producer* wants me to watch them.I've converted DVD's that I own into formats that are watchable on my AppleTV and iPod (MPAA considers this piracy as well, even though I've paid for the content and am not distributing it. They'd rather me pay for it again in another format).I've pirated content plenty of times that I've already paid for in some manner. But, I don't consume MPAA/RIAA content anymore, pirated or paid for. Why? Because their sucks and because they are abusive to their paying customers.
I don't know about everybody else... but...I was told as soon as I could understand that smoking was bad and that you should not do it.See this is a picture of what your lungs look like if you smoke. You know smoking gives you cancer you should not do it. etc, etc. I never started smoking.. Smoking was her personal choice. It's good that we still have personal choice rather than big daddy.So when the known effects of smoking occurs, you should not be able to stick your hand out and say pay me...thats like buying a gun and shooting yourself then blaming the gun company for a dangerous product.
