@KimballOI agree with you that this idea is not scientific, for the reasons you stated. I disagree, however, that it's a waste of time, and that the only value of metaphysical speculation is "as sci-fi".Sure, it's not a scientific idea, but that's ok because there's nothing that says the only good ideas are scientific ones, or that all unscientific ideas are a waste of time. I don't think Demmocritus was wasting his time when he proposed the atom theory of matter, even though it was completely unscientific at the time. Nor do I think Einstein was wasting his time when he proposed his special and general theories of relativity, even though they were born out of thought experiments and not tested empirically until years later. And I don't think string theory is a waste of time, even though it's never been subjected to empirical testing, and it's not even yet clear that it can be tested any time soon. There are examples throughout the history of science of people resorting to speculation and philosophy, especially during times of scientific crisis. What matters is that the ideas they come up with are *in principle* testable. I see no reason why this idea is untestable in principle, even though of course we have no way of testing it right now..
Ya he should have used his gadget arm to reach over the tall glass and hand it to her.!
