| Indeed, nothing is quite as meddlesome and tiring as people who go out of their way to get offended for others. |

“@KimballOI agree with you that this idea is not scientific, for the reasons you stated. I disagree, however, that it's a waste of time, and that the only value of metaphysical speculation is "as sci-fi".Sure, it's not a scientific idea, but that's ok because there's nothing that says the only good ideas are scientific ones, or that all unscientific ideas are a waste of time. I don't think Demmocritus was wasting his time when he proposed the atom theory of matter, even though it was completely unscientific at the time. Nor do I think Einstein was wasting his time when he proposed his special and general theories of relativity, even though they were born out of thought experiments and not tested empirically until years later. And I don't think string theory is a waste of time, even though it's never been subjected to empirical testing, and it's not even yet clear that it can be tested any time soon. There are examples throughout the history of science of people resorting to speculation and philosophy, especially during times of scientific crisis. What matters is that the ideas they come up with are *in principle* testable. I see no reason why this idea is untestable in principle, even though of course we have no way of testing it right now.

seriously? i mean honestly, hasn't everyone seen this pic already?.
It's classic elite governance theory- entrenched elites are actually responsible for keeping our democracy alive in the first place. Masses are much too susceptible to smooth talkers who promise the world and deliver nothing but destruction. Hitler was elected which is an important point to remember. And if anyone wants to suggest that I'm wrong, let me ask you this: who do you trust more to preserve your rights: the President and his cronies (be them either side of the aisle)? Congress? Or do you trust the Supreme court, a group of unelected and highly elitist individuals who hold the position for life, only removable by their own volition or death? And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the ultimate irony of democracy.!

Excellent post. What got the world through the Cold War was the fact that for all the misguided evils of the Soviet Empire trying to enslave the world under Communism, the Russians loved their children just the same as we do. It was the knowledge on both sides that the end result for either side in starting an atomic war would be MAD (mutually assured destruction) that got us through that scary period in history without a single atomic weapon being used in war. When you hear from the mouths of the Jihadists running Iran, that Iran can burn for all they care, you can pretty much throw out any hopes that mutually assured destruction will keep them in line.

I didn't spend so much money, but my car is listed at #105, faster than an Audi S4, Porsche 911 Turbo and BMW M3.
