| All the holier-than-thou stuff is a bit tired. If the alternatives are declaw a cat or send it to the pound, where it will likely get killed, would you really choose the pound. Declawing a cat is not something I would do lightly, but my wife's cat is a little terror with the claws. She is one of those cats that will accept your petting for an unspecified length of time and then suddenly and without warning turn around and claws you for no particular reason. She likes to hide under things and run out and claw your foot. And I lived with her for a long time like that, and dealt with the pain. But then we had a baby. We gave the cat one strike, and sure enough, it didn't take too long before it decided to put a scratch on my kid's arm and he started bawling. Would the next scratch be on his face, or his eye? Would my kid grow up fearing cats? So hell yeah, we got the cat declawed. And you know what, not only was she not traumatized, she has actually become a nicer cat now. So you people that are going to downvote me, would you have sacrificed the well-being of your baby to avoid declawing your cat? Would you have given your cat to the pound knowing that she will likely die? Is it worth outlawing declawing entirely knowing that that will likely be the alternative? |
