Embedded systems, indeed. "Your cholesterol monitor is reporting an increase this month, here are a few words from Merck Pharmaceuticals..."Hope we'll be able to jailbreak these devices and skip ads.
pre-release Alpha? isn't that kind of redundant?

This isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened and it won't be the last. New England used to have a textile industry, then it moved to North Carolina, then it moved to China. Chicago used to have a meatpacking industry, then it moved to little towns in the Midwest (now those jobs are primarily staffed by illegal immigrants). Vermont/NH had tons of people pick up and move in the mid-1800s to the newly railroaded Great Plains states which offered more and more fertile land. These towns/cities are the necessary casualties in capitalism's "Creative Destruction." Overall, it's been a huge benefit to the country that we don't need 90% of the population involved in agriculture, but it's hard to tell that to the laborer who can't get a farm job and the mayor of a little midwest town in the 1960's who sees half his population move away.?
Are you sure it's plugged in? |

There are going to be a lot of comments that say something to the effect of: "Well, this is just so they can indoctrinate these people into only buying M$ products"... Fair enough, what company doesn't want to maximize it's sales? That being said, it's awesome that they are providing this training for free. This will help a lot of people who can't afford to own a home PC (yes, believe it or not there are people who need to put food on the table more than they need to bitch about the internet) learn enough to open up their job options. Kudos to Microsoft.

What about Bungie's Myth series?I guess they weren't completely passed by, but very rarely will a gamer know what I'm talking about when I bring up Myth, even pretty hardcore gamer types. They usually think I'm referring to Myst :( Such a great series... the single player campaign was epic and the multiplayer was and still is, IMHO, one of the best gaming experiences you can have and is entirely unique in its execution. Nothing is even similar. Most people know Bungie from Halo, but I remember the way Bungie got its start and its real gems, like Myth and Marathon. |
